Fujita's Short Ram Intake
Fujita understands the limitations of a traditional under hood intake, also known as a Short Ram Intake. They usually follows the same path as the stock intake system. There are some distinct differences between the stock intake and Fujita's Short Ram Intake, such as replacing the factory rubber intake with an aluminum plenum, eliminating resonators, air box, drop in filter, and replacing it with an open filter element. These key differences allow the vehicle to bring in more air into the intake chamber and create more horsepower and torque. Vacuum and in some cases air mass sensors, are still maintained and incorporated into Fujita's Short Ram Intake.
Since a vehicle is constantly moving (except during traffic or at a light) heat soak will be of little issue since the car will constantly be bringing in fresh air. In addition, studies have shown that the material used to build the short ram intake system has shown no loss of horsepower due to an intake being rubber, aluminum, ceramic coated, anodized, etc. Each Fujita's Short Ram Intake Systems comes as a complete kit with all necessary hardware, instructions and decal's.
I Installed Fujita's Short Ram Intake yesterday and had decent expectations for a SRI intake and let me tell you, this intake met and exceeded everything I had in my mind. The installation instructions were a little to complicated for what it is and I read only a few things, other than that the overall time it took to complete the install was a little less than 30 minutes.
After finishing with everything, I took the negative cable of the battery and let the car sit for about 10 minutes. I then turned the car on and let it Idle for about 7 minutes and gave it some gas, immediately I could tell a difference, it was louder and the car sounded more aggressive. On initial start up it idled at 1700 rpm than made its way down after a couple of minutes so expect that.
Next, I drove around experimenting with various throttle inputs, found a long stretch, threw her in second at about 16mph and floored it. Immediately you can tell a big difference in the tone of the vehicle, it is much more deep and aggressive. Once VTEC hit, it really screamed and the noise levels went up immensely as if I had an exhaust.
